Data Management: The Key to
Collaborative Engineering and Design Reuse
When you
have a central, secure repository for design data, everyone in
manufacturing, purchasing, and marketing has access to current
data including engineering change orders and bills of
material. At the same time, a secure and effective data
management system is the critical component in collaborative
engineering programs where designs data is constantly being
exchanged with customers and suppliers. Autodesk has
developed the data management tools that enable everyone to
stay on the same page.
Autodesk®
Vault provides a single, secure repository for
design data.
Autodesk Productstream®
automates the release management process by managing
engineering changes and bills of materials.
Autodesk Streamline®, provides customers and
suppliers outside the firewall with secure and controlled
access to design data.

Data Management
Fully Integrated with Your Design Software
Autodesk
Vault creates a single repository for both CAD data and
Microsoft Word and Excel files relating to the design
process. This easy-to-use data management tool is fully
integrated with Autodesk Inventor® Series software, Autodesk
Inventor Professional, AutoCAD® Mechanical, and AutoCAD
Electrical products. It helps design teams track work in
progress and maintain version control in multi-user
environments. And it helps them organize and reuse designs by
consolidating product information including feedback from
customers to reduce the need to re-create designs from
scratch.

This
automated release and change management program tracks design
updates, engineering change orders, and changes in bills of
materials as designs change and evolve. It ensures the
accuracy and consistency of designs before they are released
to manufacturing or put out to bid.
By
connecting engineering design data created in Autodesk
Inventor or AutoCAD® Mechanical applications to bills of
material, Autodesk Productstream software integrates design
and manufacturing. This enables everyone involved with
purchasing, inventory management, and manufacturing to access
up-to-date design information while allowing engineering to
maintain control over that data.
At the same
time, Productstream can be easily with other business systems
to improve information transfer and reduce manual data entry
errors. This means that design information integrated
tracking bills of materials and related design information.

Collaborative Engineering – Connecting With Customers and
Suppliers
In many
industries it is critical that customers and suppliers have
secure access to up-to-the-minute design data from anywhere in
the world. This is particularly critical in collaborative
engineering efforts. Autodesk Streamline® is a hosted product
management environment for communication with customers and
suppliers beyond the firewall. Autodesk Streamline uses the
Design Web Format ™ (DWF™) to improve design review
collaboration in either 2D or 3D and access to design
information (measurements, properties of objects) as specified
by the designer. Management of projects and permissions is
simple and is based on users and groups so multiple projects
can exist on a single Autodesk site.
